Default wisteria

Could you not cover it with horticultural fleece on cold nights? If
it's against a wall then it shouldn't be too difficult to devise
something that can be put up and removed easily. If it's out in the
open, like the one at the Saville Garden which has the same problem you
describe, you could throw some fleece over it on cold nights although
you would need to weigh the edges down.

Thanks for this suggestion!
It is against a wall, but it's pretty old and big - every year it
attacks our gutters, the climbing rose, the quince, and everything else
in reach.... It should perhaps be possible to hang something between the
windows, but it would be a huge job to remove it every morning. Do you
suppose it would work just to cover it (well, some of it, at least) once
the buds swell, and leave it on until they open (and then hope for a
frost-free fortnight)?
