Like other collectables, including trees, value often outstrips
worth... if you know what I mean.

Well:

For what it is worth );-) , the earliest issues of BT are out of print. As
is the case with all things, demand dictates price.

For example, with the current restraints imposed by the Department of
Agriculture on the importing of specimens into the US from Japan, those of you in the
US who are in possession of imported materials of substantial quality have
made wise investments in what will become an increasingly difficult commodity to
obtain.

There is also an awakening in the bonsai community that bonsai, originating
and styled in the US, have been substantially underpriced for decades. Do not
be surprised to hear that Japanese collectors are willing to invest heavily in
"specimen" bonsai.
