I don't think so.

Like other collectables, including trees, value often outstrips
worth... if you know what I mean.

R.
Well:

For what it is worth );-) , the earliest issues of BT are out of print. As
is the case with all things, demand dictates price.

For example, with the current restraints imposed by the Department of
Agriculture on the importing of specimens into the US from Japan, those of you in the
US who are in possession of imported materials of substantial quality have
made wise investments in what will become an increasingly difficult commodity to
obtain.

There is also an awakening in the bonsai community that bonsai, originating
and styled in the US, have been substantially underpriced for decades. Do not
be surprised to hear that Japanese collectors are willing to invest heavily in
"specimen" bonsai.

Cordially,

Michael Persiano

On one hand, I can understand the collecting attitude, even share it
since I am an amateur dj and it rather goes with the territory.

On the other, my mind rebels at the idea of white cotton-gloved bonsai
men slipping unread pristine magazines out of their protective covers.

Since they are now out of print perhaps they could be scanned and made
available to anyone who might want them for the contents rather than
as an investment. That would be 'fair use' under copyright surely

Point taken about imported trees and the high cost/value to
collectors.

As
is the case with all things, demand dictates price.

Taken. But what dictates demand in the case of bonsai?
