At approximately 4.5 litres per gallon, this comes to about 3.5

I probably overestimated the diameter. Unless I am wrong, most
household hoses will have an internal diameter of 1/2", or 1.25 cm.
If that is a better estimate for the diameter, the volume in gallons
comes down to 1.37 gallons.
