Default How do you get really big fresh looking roses to grow

Hybrid roses require a lot of attention. Actually the easiest way is to grow
the old-fashioned shrub roses. The individual floweers don't look like much,
but they are hardy & disease resistant, and some are very fragrant.
If you must grow hybrid teas & similar varieties:
If you are in a cold climate, plant with the bud union 2 inches below ground
level.
full sun
well-drained soil with lots of organic matter.
mulch well
use a systemic insecticide. The Rose and Flower treatment granules, which
contain insecticide & fertilizer, are the best treatment.
Feed well.
Spray regularly for blackspot & look for disease resistant cultivars.
Keep weeds & other plants away.
Learn how to prune. Whenever a flower dies, prune promptly to an outward facing
bud.
If you are in a cold climate, use rose cones in winter.
