Default Squash vine Borers

On Fri, 04 Jun 2004 02:03:16 GMT, "Jim Marrs" opined:

Every year I am plagued by squash vine borers. My plants are usually done by
the end of June. I have tried it all, BT, cover cloth, etc. and I also find
the physical extraction of the little *******s not the answer. So this year
I was told to plant in white PVC pipe and the pest would not find my plants.
Does anyone have any experience with this technique and is it for real? I
noticed this evening that I had a borers starting in on one of my vines.

Thanks
Jim

You can use Remay cloth immediately when you plant them and hand pollinate them
yourself. That, or give up! I have. In summer zucchini is so easy to find and
cheaply that it's not worth the angst to me. I haven't heard about this pvc
thing, but please do report back if you find any more about it.
