Every year I am plagued by squash vine borers. My plants are usually done by
the end of June. I have tried it all, BT, cover cloth, etc. and I also find
the physical extraction of the little *******s not the answer. So this year
I was told to plant in white PVC pipe and the pest would not find my plants.
Does anyone have any experience with this technique and is it for real? I
noticed this evening that I had a borers starting in on one of my vines.

Thanks
Jim

You can use Remay cloth immediately when you plant them and hand pollinate
them
yourself. That, or give up! I have. In summer zucchini is so easy to find
and
cheaply that it's not worth the angst to me. I haven't heard about this pvc
thing, but please do report back if you find any more about it.

I had also given up on Squash due to the squash borers, but I've gone
ahead and planted some in the floor of my greenhouse, and am hoping that
them being "inside" will finally prevent the problem. :-) I have a pair
of pretty little Carolina Anoles running around in there for bug patrol
and they've done a good job so far...

Wish me luck!
