My experience last year with seed I had saved from one I grew the
previous year was that I produced an orange thing, marrow shaped.
I assume my pumpkins had been cross-pollinated with courgettes.
It was pumpkin-like flesh inside but not the shape I wanted!
I called them pumpettes. They were green at first. I guess the same
thing has happened for you.
Incidentally I won 50p first prize for mine in our local show, in the
"unusual vegetable" class!
