recommendations of getting a strong flexible pond liner, and laying it
over the top of the old one, rather than getting a preformed one.

My main pond, Shareholders Pond, is about 3000 gallons in total. I used 45
mil EPDM. It was heavy but my wife and I spread it easily ourselves. We just
started our second pond, which is a preform. It is a pain in the arse.
