We put our Vanilla cutting in a ten inch pot with sphagnum. We used a series
of coconut fiber poles - that reached about 6 feet or so. It is in our plant
room and it grew past the poles and started growing on the walls. It reached
the ceiling (9 ft) and is now growing across the ceiling. It seems happy,
but has yet to bloom. I have heard various stories about what it takes to
bloom - it must start growing "down," it must be 20 feet long, etc, but have
not heard any definitive answers. The fact that it has not bloomed does not
bother our children. The fact that it is Vanilla and is growing on the
ceiling "IN THE HOUSE" makes them think it is very cool and gives them
bragging rites with their friends...

to get top-heavy and start falling over]. Then mount the vanilla on the
trellis or driftwood.
