Yup, I grew up with horses, we had a metal trough, with goldfish, including
one beauty of a moor. I'm so surprised with what I know now that they
survived cleaning of the trough, which included scrubbing off the algae.
They were fed Friskies cat chow, and were rarely given much time to get use
to the fresh cold well water before being put back. We used a stock tank
heater in the winter, so at least "keeping a hole open in the ice" wasn't a
problem. ~ jan
