thanks kathy - that is what i thought i should do - just wanted someone to
confirm it! there is no string/blacket weed or gloopy stuff. i will have a
mech. filter so bob will be my dads brother...

additional nutrients for algae.

If the water has string algae, floating bits of gooey
algae, then your pond is probably overloaded with
nutrients, then you should clean out the stuff that
is feeding the algae.

Turn on the UV.
Do you have a mechanical filter?

The algae is going to die and the remains of the algae
cells will need to be removed. Sending your water
thru a mechanical filter will remove them from the
water.
