Hi Nina,

Your green leaf is a Hoya, also sometimes called Wax plant. I don't know which one, but you might be able to get some help from this forum just for Hoyas. Do read the FAQ's and instructions. Also look at the 'Gallery' as you may be able to id it from there.

Your 'scary thing' is a Kalanchoe. Not sure which one, but you can click around here to see if you can id it.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
