There doesn't seem to be a FAQ on plant labels, and Googling the urg
archive doesn't bring up exactly what I want, so:

I'm thinking of using soft metal labels (copper or aluminium) for
permanently labeling many of my plants before my few remaining brain
cells forget completely what they are. Pencil, the best thing I've
found so far for writing labels, only lasts a few years IME. Two Wests
do metal labels. But I don't want to rely on simply scribing them with
a ball-point pen or similar. I'm looking for a set of alphabet punches
(if that's the right term) so that I can print them semi-neatly. I
imagine they're the sort of thing that model engineers and other
metalworkers might use. Does anyone know of a supplier?

(There used to be machines (e.g. on railway stations) rather like
modern Dymo systems but huge, that gave you an embossed aluminium
label for the princely sum of 1d, IIRC. Long gone, sadly)

The alternative to metal labels might be a Dymo label. Their web site
recommends the Labelpoint 350 as being able to produce UV-proof
heat-proof and waterproof labels. Anyone had any experience with it
for garden use?
