Hi Richard,

I agree that without knowing where you are located it would be difficult to say what species of squirrel starved to death in your friend's Havahart trap. You might want to inform your friend that the trap is designed to live trap and release the 'pest', not let it starve to death because he went on a trip.

Now that I've ranted, I'd like to warn your friend to have every inch of electrical wires inspected in the attic. Friends of ours didn't do this and it took two years for the chewed wires to overheat and burn the house half down.

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.
