WHETHER YOU AIR LAYER OR JUST CHOP YOU CAN WORK WITH THE SCAR BETTER IF YOU CUT IT ON AN ANNGLE RATHER THAN STRAIGHT ACROSS. YOU CAN POSSIBLE ESTABLISH A LOWER BRANCH AT THE BASE OF THAT ANGLE MAKING IT EASIER TO HIDE THE SCAR

I would cut now or airlayer as suggested, also take
cuttings. If the wound is .5 inches or bigger,
include the resulting scar in to your design. They do
no heal invisibly.

I just purchased a Chinese Hackberry from our local
nursery.

It has nice trunk size and taper. The Hackberry has
not leafed out yet
but the buds look like they are about to break open,

I want to chop the trunk and put it in a growbox.
Should I wait until
it has leafed out completely or is now fine?

Thanks,
