Why New Forest? Aren't lizards all over the UK?

I believe they are much rarer in the N.


I once saw a lizard sunning itself on a rock by a road cutting in NW
Scottish Highlands.
I don't know how rare they are up there, but they disappear at the slightest
movement, and usually before we see them.
