as though the forecast for a really cold one has been significantly
downgraded. The most recent view from Metcheck (the most pessimistic
forecaster) is that the winter mean for most of us will be about the
same or marginally warmer (about 0.25C.) than the 1982-2003 norm,
while in Ireland it will be as much as half a degree warmer. This is
in sharp contrast to what we were being led to believe a month ago.
They are still forecasting a harsh one for parts of mainland Europe,
but that is unlikely to affect us. So its as you were folks!
