Default lee moore Cattleya mooreana

Jamie,

The Cattleya Mooreana is the ugliest of the Cattleyas I have ever seen.
That species and the second most ugly Cattleya forbesi are the two species
in this entire genera I have never wanted to carry in my catalog. I just
can't stand looking at them.

I used to buy orchids from Lee Moore in Miami a few days after he would
return from his trips down south. It was a bit odd to travel down to his
apartment in Miami and buy south/central American species right out of the
suitcases he carried back from Peru... they were all crushed from being
packed so tightly and dehydrated to the max. Sadly, most his plants were in
quarantine so long and sprayed with so many chemicals by the US government
that very few ever grew out to bloom for me. The fifth year when he called
me to see his fresh new "load" I passed on driving down to his house. But
many people did buy from him. Every time I went down there he always had at
least a half dozen buyers in his living room with wads of hot cash burning
holes in their pockets. I must say, Lee has some great war stories to tell
of his travels which I used to enjoy hearing... the guy is a talker and
great story teller.

Anyone know anything about this guy? I know he named the Cattelya
Mooreana, but has he ever been involved in any questionable trade of
wild orchids? Or of Orchid Smuggling?
