Default Treefern & frost

Despite my gloomy outlook, Ray decided to leave the treefern out on the
tea
room lawn and it has survived quite happily, despite nights cold enough to
ice over the ponds at least a bit. It has fairly high hedges nearby but
little tree canopy above it.

Early days though ... I may have to do something with mine this winter - as
even sub-tropical urban Bristol may well get very cold later.

My banana (Basjoo) got through last year's cold snap unprotected (except by
rampant bamboo) and resprouted from the top - I really must get out there
and wrap up the 6 foot trunk - it'd be a shame for it to start again from
the bottom when it's so close to flowering size ....
