this is a good read at the very least, but i have always tried to
encourage people buying lawn equipment etc.,. to buy from a specialist
shop and that they should find a shop where expereince abounds (can be
hard but listen for word of mouth in your locale).

the models sold in discounter shops are special models made for that
price range, it is a little sad that rover and masport find they have
to grasp on to market share and provide models for those markets.

the story is about snapper we used to sell them then they stopped
exporting to australia ??

but a good rule of thumb is buy the manufacturers who don't sell their
integrity out by competing in the discount market. when i was a
mechanic it was a trap then for the buyer purchasing a mower in a box
and i reckon that won't have changed the trap may even have gotten
bigger.

I was after a coil for a Jonsered HT21 hedgetrimmer. So I ring Electrolux
the distributer of them in Australia. Turns out it is now run by Husqvarna
(but still Electrolux just the outdoor division). So I ring them and i find
out I can only buy that part from a Husqvarna dealer. I ring my local dealer
only to find out he doesn't deal Jonsered parts. So eventually I find a
Jonsered dealer who wants $90 for the coil.

The coil is made by Phelon in America and they have only 7 distrubuters
throughout the world. Guess what none in Australia! So I am thinking the
part I want is worth $20 but after travelling all over the world and going
through so many hands and so much gst I am getting ripped off. Is like car
parts and pvc retic fittings.

So looks like I have to pay for guys expensive missus's and Mercedes Benz
while I live on a beer budget.

Rant End.

Re the coil, go and see your "friendly" mower mechanic, and ask him if
there's an equivalant coul on the market. I bet ya there is. Or a
wrecked machine which has one still usable.
