A point was made on here, something I hadn't myself thought
of in my wholehearted endorsement of washing up liquid is that
too frequent an application of even soft soap spay can have
a harmful effect on the cutin, the waxy layer which is found
on all leaves. Some species being noticeably more waxy than
others.

Washing up liquid is presumably may even more damaging on
susceptible plants. At least if applied too often in too
strong a concentration.

Maybe if it was rinsed off with clear water shortly after
application this might limit the damage.
