I recall an old saying that I picked up somewhere in the Cotswolds:
"Women, dogs and walnut trees....the more you beats them the better
they be's!"

How interesting. I used to beat ours, as a child helping my grand dad,
but I thought it was to get the nuts ... and now you mention this it
all makes sense because sometimes my grand dad used to make me do
strange useless things to get rid of me, I thought )

This is probably as good a time of year as any to grab a
cat-o-nine-tails, and take out all your frustrations in a fit of
arboreal flagellation.

Marvelous stuff - must get a walnut tree.

I wasn't sure whether walnut trees work en Angleterre. Best one I saw was
in NZ, the fruits (nuts) were laid out to dry and I had a goodly handful.

Then I got caught.
