Don't I have to paint the metal with something (like a rustoleum type paint)
so it doesn't happen again?

And I don't thihk there are any cheap swamp coolers anymore. I got this 9
yrs ago from Charleys because I could find one there. I've googled and found
some window evaporative coolers, but they are in the $500 range, too. Ticks
me off.

wires a bit. Mine have completely rusted out and I bought some heavy
gauge
wire at Orchard Supply and just bent some zig-zag and bent the ends up to

into the holes. You can get fancy and make cross pieces and wire them
together (not with copper wire) or braze them as I tried once, but it's
not
worth the effort.

Where can you get another one cheap? Mine is about 40 years old.
