Are you sure it hasn't been pinched by a squirrel? We have had that
happening and eventually found the (empty!) feeder some way off. I think
they take them off to a specialist safe breaker.

Very true, only took tham a day at my place from working out how to
disconnect it, to moving to the full blown theft solution. Never seen it
since.
