Default hydras in the tank?

they look like short white lint with fingers sticking
out one end, while the other end is anchored on glass,

Yup, that sounds like hydras. I found just two in my tank a long time
ago, which no doubt means there are more, but unfortunately I can't
see them now.

is this bad?

Not especially. While they do have a poisonous sting, much like a
jellyfish, they're far to small to hurt anything except the smallest
fish - like fry.

Hydra would be bad in a breeding tank, but in a normal community tank
they shouldn't be a big problem.
