When cool I moisten the result and insert the seeds.

Is this OK? When I put the lid on the petri dish to
retard moisture loss, and make them stackable, should I
worry about oxygen lockout?

I don't see any significant problem with that setup,
except for some seeds that may need darkness to germinate.

I plant the seeds about 5mm beneath the surface, so they're
in the dark. The cover of the petri dish sure retards
drying out.
