I am pretty sure that if you are not now having trouble with your Whiptail
(Rineloricaria lanceolata), you soon will. I would seriously consider
getting this guy a new home. At the very least, check on him at night to see
if he is on the plants.. I have heard that this fish will eat plants,
especially as they get larger.

I have not ever observed my ottos damaging my plants, though I have the very
small variety of Ottos commonly called Golden Ottos (Otocinclus affinis).
It is possible the larger Ottos are more prone to damaging plants.

I have a bristlenose pleco (Ancistrus sp.) that is quite destructive to my
large Amazon swords. Some people report that their bristlenose plecos do
fine in a planted tank. I have not been so lucky.

By the way, I have 3 clown loaches (Botia macracanthus) as well. Some
participants in this newsgroup claim clowns can be destructive to plants.
This has not been my experience, so far anyway. It is interesting that you
are having trouble with your clowns. Possibly as my loaches get bigger, I
will have trouble. My loaches are now about 4 inches or less in length.
These are very close to my favorite fish around, so I hope they remain well

My melon sword put up a new marron'ish/red leave over the past couple of
days and it too has some small holes in it. About 4 days ago, I put some
SeaChem Florish tablets under the roots of all 4 of my Swords hoping that
helps.
