My experience has been that it works quite well without harming the plants.
It fills a gap in esthetics until you complete the fine tuning of your
set-up. It's my experience that talk is cheap and experience pricey when
trying to find the secret that's causing your algae problem...especially in
a 120 that tests "good" across the board...
