Hmm. Did you actually investigate whether they were any safer, or
were merely claimed to be by people with an interest in doing so?

Nick Maclaren.

Actually although off topic and can answer you here.
A friend who was a taxi driver about 7 years ago, very stockily built
and no weed would have most definitely have been killed had he not been
driving a Volvo.
This was confirmed b the firemen and police at the scene.
He had pulled up at a roundabout and behind him was a lorry. He just
happened to look in his mirror and realised that the driver on the
phone, had not noticed the slowing down and stopping.
He had split seconds to fling himself across the front seats as the van
actually drover OVER the top of the Volvo and came to rest as so!

Though squashed down the rood stayed up in the Volvo just enough for him
to breather although not move.
The police thought he was surely killed but as they winched the van off
the top he managed to wiggle his hand.
So yes i do believe that Volvos are safer than many cars.
