prooning advice
gday all,
id like to know if its the right time to prune. i have all sorts of plants that have dead bits from the hard summer, are getting too rangy or just need trimming. is there anything that anyone knows of that i would actually harm by pruning now? 2 particular plants im thinking of are a couple of rhododendrons that have been sun burnt, and a very gangly rosemary bush. but in general, the whole garden needs trimming. i kinda feel that everything would grow much better after the dead wood and the rangy branches were removed. any thoughts? cheers, evan. |

Hi I dont know about the things you metioned, but cutting off dead wood can
be done anytime, as long as you dont cut any that is still alive. That should be done when the plant is dormant (There are some exceptons to that rule, some bushes that bloom early can be pruned right after blooming is over.)_ Dwayne "evan" wrote in message ... gday all, id like to know if its the right time to prune. i have all sorts of plants that have dead bits from the hard summer, are getting too rangy or just need trimming. is there anything that anyone knows of that i would actually harm by pruning now? 2 particular plants im thinking of are a couple of rhododendrons that have been sun burnt, and a very gangly rosemary bush. but in general, the whole garden needs trimming. i kinda feel that everything would grow much better after the dead wood and the rangy branches were removed. any thoughts? cheers, evan. |

If you are in Sydney, then generally yes. i have all sorts of plants that have dead bits from the hard summer, are getting too rangy or just need trimming. is there anything that anyone knows of that i would actually harm by pruning now? Roses are pruned in July in Sydney. 2 particular plants im thinking of are a couple of rhododendrons that have been sun burnt, and a very gangly rosemary bush. but in general, the whole garden needs trimming. i kinda feel that everything would grow much better after the dead wood and the rangy branches were removed. any thoughts? The rosemary would b fine, I imagine.
