Hi there
The flowers on our hibiscus open, then within a day close up tightly, and
sort of twist up.
Is this a type of disease or pest, and any ideas how to cure it.

Sounds normal to me. Quite a few hibiscus varieties have flowers that barely
last a day.

One pest that does affect them is hibiscus beetle. You would see the damage to
leaves and buds quite easily if you have them.

I agree. My wife has two tropical hibiscus that we have to move in during
the cold months, and the blooms last one day and then die. There is a hardy
type of hibiscus that I have seen but have had no experience with growing
them yet. Maybe their blossoms would last longer.

We do have problems with spider mites, after bringing them into the house
for the winter. The wife mixes a teaspoon of dish soap with a quart of
water and sprays the leaves every time she sees signs of them. Another
deterrent is to turn a fan on and point it towards the plants. Mites hate
wind and don't seem to appear as often.

That seems like a lot of trouble, but arent the flowers beautiful while they
last?
