I have to bring in some trees each night (for security), and I have a
strong grow light spotlight. So, I figured I would turn that on for about
5 hours.

I think I read trees need darkness. Is 4 hours/night enough?

It is enough, especially in the summer. Trees in Alaska and other northerly
latitudes get even less at this time of year.
