Default [IBC] Dumb Cambium Layer Question

I could talk about cambium all day, but you might get bored. Suffice it to
say that it is the only live, growing layer of cells on a tree, that it lies
between the bark and the heartwood, and that it is only one cell thick.
As long as there is an unbroken vertical line
of cambium from the roots to a particular branch, that branch can survive.
If you completely girdle the trunk, you kill everything above the girdling
point. Under normal circumstances, the cambium not only grows completely
around the trunk, but also up into and around all the branches. Sometimes,
when a branch is injured, the cambium at the wound site may, with luck,
reach out and cover it. That's what we all hope for when we do heavy
pruning. It's a fantastic subject for study, especially for bonsai growers.

Subject: [IBC] Dumb Cambium Layer Question

Is the cambium layer made up of distinct, parallel vertical lines, or is

it
all one pool of fluid/nutrients, 360 degrees around the trunk?

Thanks,

Jim
