where temperatures drop to near 0-degrees Fahrenheit.

It is also difficult to define "Chinese Elm," and the variation in hardiness
in unbelievable. My Ulmus davidiana are wintered in a cold house, buried in
mulch, and freeze solid for the winter. My Ulmus parvifolia 'Suberosa' is
wintered in the same manner; however, this method of wintering will not work for
all "Chinese Elms."

I suggest that individuals experiment with less precious materials before
committing to a wintering strategy. Consult bonsai organizations in your
locality to determine the safest approach to wintering your trees. Explore the best
practices used by experienced folks in your specific area.
