[IBC] Pomagranate seeds
I was at the grocery store two weeks ago and bought a pomegranate
fruit for .90 cents. Went home and chewed the pips/seeds clean and put 4 seeds in a 4" pot. Two weeks later, 2 seedlings came up. Read somewhere that these seeds do not keep - didn't specify how long "keep" meant. Each fruit contains about 100 seeds if not more.Quite the bargain , I'd say Marcus West Coast/Canada ========= Dirr says: "Seeds germinate readily, but progeny are extremely variable; this would be a good species to work with as far as flower color and compactness (goes)." He notes, too, that "softwood cuttings root readily." To which _I_ add that ALL pomegranate cuttings have rooted for me. 100% of LOTS. (All pencil size or smaller). Next spring, I am planning to layer a large (and ugly) pome I have in a 5-gallon pot. I expect to have a plethora of roots in a month or two.
