[IBC] pear bonsai
Hi all,
I want to ask if anyone on the club has any extensive experience with pear trees and how they are propagated. I am about to propagate my pear tree and I would like to know what would be the best choice to propagate a stump about 2-3 inches at the bast of the tree. Thank You luc Tran zone 8b texas. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? New Yahoo! Thank You Maybe I'm being dense here, but I'm not sure what you mean by "propagate a stump." That's probably too large to chop off and make a cutting out of it. Pears, like other members of the rose family, propagate OK via air layer, so if you're wanting a shorter stump, you could do an air layer (in the spring). Easiest way, I suspect would be to do the bark peel (or wire) as low as possible, then pile a soil sphagnum mix around it. Or you can do the standard, if you want the layer farther up the trunk. I have done all mine by seed -- believe it or not. Pears grow rapidly and as everyone knows I like small trees. Many of mine are actual transplanted seedlings from the pears on my driveway trees that the squirrels miss.
