Default [IBC] wiring question

how long does it take a limb to 'set' in its new position? the
trees i have
in question are a gingko and a red maple, both young and

smallish branches,
nothing thicker than a pencil.

No way to give you a definitive answer here. It depends on the
tree, how fast it is growing, how much you are bending the
branches, time of year, etc.

One wires, watches to see that the wires don't cut into the
branch, removes them if they do, then sometimes immediately
re-wires when a branch's "memory" springs it back to its starting
point. At other times, a branch returns to its previous position
verrrry slooolly so it surprises you.

I don't have any gingko, so can't help with it. The maple branch
may take a while (depending on all of the above). Since maple is
a smooth-barked tree, you have to be especially careful about
wire marks.

Default [IBC] wiring question

Two years would be a reasonable time frame - but remember to rewire a few
months after the first wiring.

Default [IBC] wiring question

Ihave a 4 year old trident maple that i just started wiring last year. i
started in mid-early summer and took them off in late fall. the branches stayed
where they were but sadly the wires chewed into the plant badly in some
places(due to a longer than expected vacation). now I dont know what zone you live in
but i live in zone 7 in the upper portion of the chihawan desert with temps.
fromlow100s to mid 40s so it may be a totaly different story for you. my one
bit of advice is to watch the wire very carefully to make shure it doesnt hurt
the tree and make a very undesirable affect. good luck with your trees i hope
they grow strong and live long.

I'm amazed that you can keep a Trident Maple alive in the
Chihuahua Desert, much less have wiring problems from fast
growth.

Unfortunately, wire scars last a long time in smooth-bark trees
like maples. You can try to roughen the scars every so often
with sandpaper to promote callus and healing, but more often than
not that just results in a lumpy portion of the branch.
