Default [IBC] Cuttings

I have had recent great success with cuttings. The
rooting is quick (3-4 weeks) and the roots are fat and
succulent.

I take an old, used styrofoam cooler (I gut these free
from work) like old fish coolers, about 8 to 12 inches
in depth. I put drainage holes in the bottom, a layer
of sawdust, a very light layer of manure, another
layer of sawdust, fill with pearlite.

Make cuttings, dip in hormone of your choice, make
hoes with a stick of some sort, put cuttings in holes,
tamp down pearlite so that there is tight contact with
the cutting, water and wait.

I also have been using my old greenhouse windows as a
sort of limited green house. There are two with about
a 24 inch space between them (so I can walk in) and
the sprinklers go off twice a day. You can accomplish
a similar effect with a pastic cover or glass jar.

The container has to be deep enough so that the roots
do nit touch the manure for they will burn.

You can only use each container once. Second trys
don't usually work. I think this is true because of
contamination of the material and that the heat from
the manure is used up.

Of course I have more cuttings than I can possibly
use, so they go to plant raffles and the like.
