Question for the Taste Police
Would it be legal to put a bluish green juniper in a plain glazed white square
cascade pot? Iris, Central NY, Zone 5a, Sunset Zone 40 "If we see light at the end of the tunnel, It's the light of the oncoming train." Robert Lowell (1917-1977) |

[IBC] Question for the Taste Police
Depends upon how you stylize the tree. If it's cascade, it could be
interesting. Anyway, you shouldn't have to ask the Taste Police. If we all had to depend upon someone else's taste, the bonsai world would be in a sad state. [IBC] Question for the Taste Police
Hey you are the taste police, you decide if it looks good.
however you are in a cold place you have to consider whether that pot can take extreme cold. Glazed pots tend to break sometimes if you do not protect them. from the sudden changes. An unglazed pot may hold up better. Question for the Taste Police
the white and blue-green combo reminded me
of some of my bad wardrobe choices of the 80s. Oh, dear. The reason I was considering it is because the Japanese have a proverb which allows them to put a pine tree in a white pot. I think I will get the pot anyway because the price is right. Then I can see how they look together. Gee, isn't white associated with death in Japan? I hope
your ancient proverb isn't an ancient curse! ;-) Alan Walker http://bonsai-bci.com http://LCBSBonsai.org -----Original Message----- From: Iris Cohen the white and blue-green combo reminded me of some of my bad wardrobe choices of the 80s. [IBC] Question for the Taste Police
Better than a white juniper in a blue container ;-)
Seriously, don't see why not. How about trying the tree in the pot for a year, see if it works? I've had some surprising results that needed to be seen for a while before decided on. [IBC] Question for the Taste Police
IT IS NOT AN ISSUE OF CASCADES BEING MORE SUSCEPTIBLE TO THE COLD. IT IS
JUST A MATTER OF TAKING CARE OF GLAZED POTS. THEY TEND TO CRACK SOMETIMES DUE TO SUDDEN TEMP CHANGES. An unglazed pot may hold up better. That is not really a problem. I don't leave cascades outdoors for the winter. It would spend the winter in the unheated sunporch, which goes down to about 25. I wouldn't use a pot that can't take any frost at all for a hardy bonsai.
