[IBC] bathroom humor
Hi All,
I've actually read the posts on this with interest. I have a lot of tropicals that have to come during the winter months here in E. TN. Although I could put some of them here, there and the next place in front of windows, then have to run all over the house watering, actually the best place I've found was to surround my garden tub with them. It's like a jungle in there. The bathroom is huge and I seldom use that tub anyway, so it was a perfect spot for them and they love the humidity from the shower. Which is separate from the tub. There's also a skylight and I also have grow lights. They made it through perfectly well last year. It sure cut down on the amount of running around I have to do taking care of them. I have 3 areas in the house where I keep plants and then a couple on the window sill over the sink in the kitchen. I just counted and after downsizing greatly when I moved here to this house, I still have 35 plants and trees in the house before bringing the tropical trees in. The rest of the hardy trees stay out under the deck, which sits off the ground high enough that even hubby can walk safely around under there. It's like an outdoor room and is surrounded by lattice work. It has a regular size door on it. It was perfect last year. The sun still came through the slats, the trees were protected from wind, still got rained on through the slats and made it through fine. Thanks to all for your comments.
I want to sincerely add that I have tremendous respect for the bonsai practice. I was in the far east about 10 years ago, and visited a couple of bonsai gardens - and have been fascinated with them ever since. I never tried anything however, until now. So for those of you who were offended, sorry if my intentions seemed derogative. |

How about a schefflera?* It sounds like it would be a good environment to grow aerial roots, and it doesn't demand high light. The last time I tried a dwarf schefflera, it was a disaster. Luke, your dreaming. Currently, my power is out (currently, no current?).
I AM bathing in a lake; for the second time this month. The water's cold. I want my hot water back. Last time it took six days - jay Jay Beckenbach - Melrose, FL - Zone 8b/9a - -----Original Message----- From: Luke Tulkas ] Subject: bathroom humor .....Imagine bathing among the trees. Under the branches. Better yet, let's make that a pool. Or a lake. With a waterfall instead of jacuzzi. With regular size trees on the shore. Hm... but then bonsai would be somewhat obsolete.... ************************************************** ****************************** ++++Sponsored, in part, by Boon Manakitivipart++++ ************************************************** ****************************** -- The IBC HOME PAGE & FAQ: http://www.internetbonsaiclub.org/ -- +++++ Questions? water's no good for 'gators, they don't like cold baths either ;-).
Just to keep with the bonsai, all my stuff came through ok, although very wind whipped, again. They'll need to leaf out again. Hope it doesn't over-stress them for next spring - jay Jay Beckenbach - Melrose, FL - Zone 8b/9a - -----Original Message----- From: Bart Thomas ] Sent: Tuesday, September 28, 2004 12:23 PM To: 'Beckenbach, Jay'; Subject: [IBC] bathroom humor Look out for those gators! -----Original Message----- From: Internet Bonsai Club ] On Behalf Of Beckenbach, Jay Sent: Tuesday, September 28, 2004 9:09 AM To: Subject: [IBC] bathroom humor Luke, your dreaming. If you have a window that faces south , unless you live in the southern hemisphere, you should have most available light possible indoors. I keep some small trees in such a location ad they do fantastic. the combination of light and humdity are perfect for many tropicals. You can even grow orchids in such locations.
