Hmmm. This is a spam-free, supposedly E-Bay-free, non-
commercial group, PLEASE.

Besides I got 33 hits on www.abebooks.com at prices ranging from
$5 to $100 for Saikei: Living Landscapes in Miniature. The high
was for a mint 1st edition.

That's not much for a 1st edition, so it must not be so rare.

Penney: Toshio Kawamoto wrote two books on saikei for English
speakers. The first (coauthored by Joseph Y. Kurihara),
Bonsai-Saikei: The Japanese Miniature Trees, Gardens, and
Landscapes, is rarely up for sale and quite expensive when it is
and fetches US$300. There were only 1000 of these limited
edition books published in 1963; 500 in an "Eastern Hemisphere"
edition and another 500 in a "Western Hemisphere" edition.
Kawamoto's other English language book is your Saikei: Living
Landscapes in Miniature. It's a delightful book which is long out
of print from its initial publication in 1967 by Kodansha through
several subsequent printings (at least five). However, because
there were many more of these books printed, they are not so
rare.
