[IBC] wiandi ficus
Last year I bought one of these at a garden center. It has a great root
base and gently curving trunk. I cut it back to what I thought might be a new apex, down to a height of a little under three feet. The cut is pretty significant, and the tree has grown numerous clusters of new shoots around the site of the cut, and a few other places around the trunk. I'm thinking that instead of using what I originally thought would be the apex, I would cut off the top completely and develop new branches, making for a thicker trunk and more compact growth. How large should the shoots be before I trust them to carry the tree? The main trunk before the present apex is about 18", the base is about 3" just above the roots, and the trunk is about 2" in diameter.
