Default [IBC] Grafting Maples

Apparently 'Arakawa' buds back readily on younger wood, but not once the
thick bark starts to develop. Mine is in between. I am thinking of thread grafting
that one and my American red maple. Has anyone had experience thread grafting
maples? I thread grafted my crabapple very successfully, but not other
species.

HI
I have done 2 years ago on a deshojo
excellent result even if I started in november
The best moment is right now if you have long spindly useful branches
... if you have not ,leave one grow very ling all the active season
until the winther and do thread grafting in spring ..

If you start now in 2005, after you have done ( you need to know how
to doit exactly) leave the outgoing branch grow one whole year , it
will grow 3 times thicker than the back part ..do not allow any bud
open on the old part

2006 leave the branch grow as she wish until september
and just trim very little after fall..

2007 next spring ( 2 years later after you started ) cut the back
part shaved to the runk and seal the entrance with sealing wax
it takes 2 springs to work
next autumn I can cat the btranch short leaving 4 buds and will start
forming into a branch the following spring 2008
