Default how to prune plants?

This may seem like a silly question, but our tank is finally doing really
well. We got rid of the hair algae and the plants are growing great.
However now I'm going to have to prune them soon. My question is how do I
go about doing this. I don't want to uproot them, do I just trim them in
the water with clippers? We have a few crypto's that are getting quite
bushy and I would like to trim them back. Please help, I am a newbie
(almost one year)!!

the only advice i would give is to trim no more than 1/4 of the tank at a
time especially if trimming an "algae buster." if you do much more than this
you run the risk of giving the algae a lot of nutrients again.
