Default Carnations will Not Bloom - Help

I purchased some carnations (dianthus caryophyllus) early last year but they
have never bloomed. They have grown long and the leaf part looks great.

Any suggustions why they have never bloomed?

Thanks,
Jim

Some perennials do not bloom while still juvenile plants. Dianthus like very
well draining, nearly neutral and pretty lean soil. Do not mulch with compost or
other high organic mulches. Side dress this spring as new growth begins with a
balanced, low nitrogen fertilizer. Provided they have good growing conditions
and sufficient sunlight, they should bloom this season.
