Orange Tiny Mites Infestation

Hello This is my first visit and post to what looks like a cool site! Can anyone please tell me how to get near my compost bin to turn it/aerate it without being infested with tiny orange mites which have RECENTLY appeared all over the top rim of the bin? I would really appreciate any suggestions as i'm sick of brushing them off my arms.PLEASE??
