Default Dead apple tree

I planted a James Grieve apple tree e few months ago and it appears to have died. It is about 2 metres from another apple tree which is flourishing, there are other plants around it some have also died whilst others look healthy. Does anyone have any ideas?
PS I'm very new to gardening
