Grass for shady lawn
Hi - I'm trying to get grass to grow in a very shady area that has pine trees on the side. I planted shade grass last spring, it did well then died in July. Any advice for doing it better this year so I can get it to really take ? Right now this area is just dirt, seems like the rain that falls gets sucked up by the pine tree roots. Thanks |

Thanks Without knowing where you live, I'd suggest a fall replanting with a shade grass such as fescue or even creeping red fescue if you have deep shade. In many climates, spring planted grass doesn't have enough time to mature so it can withstand a hot first summer. Planting in the fall gives the grass much more time to develop a root system in preparation for a relatively dry, hot summer climate. KB |

Grass for shady lawn
Here in Zone 7, a local blend called 'DelMarVa' works very well-- the key
however is to not let it ever dry out during the first year. Dave "The_Cahills" wrote in message news:5Plpa.311063$OV.346586@rwcrnsc54...
