Default Surprise Lilies

Small house in dense urban neighborhood in US midwest (MO).

Around Mar. '06, I planted a mess of hosta and surprise lilies (SL's) between
my house and my neighbor's (direct sun for about 1 hour/day).

The hosta have always thrived. The SL's always show spring growth around
Mar./April. The first year I got the "surprise" OK around Aug. 1.
Thereafter no "surprise". Spring growth looks fine but nothing in
Aug. (but the "surprise" is evident in everyone else's gardens).

Anybody have this problem? Maybe my SL's need fertilizer in July?
It's not lack of water: I water them when dry, and, this season,
we've broken -all- records for precip. Too wet?

Thx,
Puddin'
